Translations

Written on December 21, 2007

When the Japanese poetmaster wrote his elegy,
Which in the Japanese language has the name Haiku.
Were his writings in rhyme in his country's pronunciation?
And then were lost in its English translation?
The Bible is a holy book, but the Koran is holy too,
Both worship a supreme being, as also does the Jew.
Again it’s in the translation,
That has created war and strife.
And sometimes a single sentence,
Has cost countries and men their life.
Emperors, presidents, and dictators,
Have used their holy books to say.
That both countries and men should be destroyed,
Because they worship in another way.
A football coach asked his team to join hands and pray,
They would achieve victory on the field that day.
One of the team spoke up and asked,
What was the Lord to do if the other team,
Prayed and asked for a victory too?
In the Bible a week could be a billion years,
So how can we say it's so?
That this earth and man were created in seven days,
A million years ago?
We must realize the leaders here and overseas,
Are using the Bible and Koran.
To justify the use of war,
To conquer other lands.
The world should realize there are warnings,
Of earthquakes, fire, water, and draught.
To disband our armies,
And turn ourselves about.
To turn our backs on leaders,
Who have never been on a battlefield.
But think it’s their right,
To send our young men to die and kill.
I listen to the men in congress,
Not honorable Republicans and Democrats.
Rise to the podium to say,
Let’s be sure the Amtrak railroads get their money.
While the children’s healthcare, can wait another day.
While another politician rises to declare,
Lets hurry because its time we have a vacation coming up.
And this country can go to hell, before we miss it too.
Oil and gas prices soar; our dollar has lost its power.
While our politicians and this administration blusters,
And our country weakens by the hour.
We have a president, who thinks he's a demy-god not a man,
And I pity him and his band.
When they approach their judgment day,
And retribution is at hand.

Well said, it's hard to believe you haven't been writing your whole life, I'm impressed!
