Years ago when I was young,
And enrolled in school.
In times of trouble,
I had a steadfast rule.
To outtalk a sensible man,
And outrun a fool.
But there were times when,
Deeds and words were said.
That made me want to bounce my fists,
Off somebody’s head.
So the two of us would square off and fight,
With fists, feet, and sometimes a head butt or two.
Then sometimes along the way we would,
Realize the only thing we had gained,
Was bruises, cut lips, and black eyes.
The finally one would say “That’s enough,
I’ll tell you what I’ll do.
If you want to shake hands,
I’ll apologize to you”.
So the fight would be over and at the end,
You would be surprised to learn,
You had made a friend.
I really feel sad today when I hear the news,
That fist and feet have been forgotten.
And guns and knives are used.
You wonder where in the world,
Did anyone get the belief.
That taking another persons life,
Would give anyone relief.
And we find after the killing,
The killer took his life too.
Leaving the world to try,
To find a way.
To get the “Golden Rule” ingrained,
Back in our logic for today.

The Christmas Tree
Originally written December 21, 2007
The ornaments on a Christmas tree,
Will almost take your breath.
Until you stop to realize, they beautify and hide,
The tree’s oncoming death.
I’m not exactly a Grinch at Christmas,
But one thing I can’t see.
With so many things we have to use,
Why kill a growing tree.
A plastic tree will look the same,
And when the Christmas seasons gone.
Can be dismantled and packed away,
To be used once again on our next Christmas day.
The seeds were planted, a tree was born,
Branches reaching to the sky.
When Christmas season a time of love approached,
The young tree had to die.
That young tree was not alone,
There were thousands side by side.
There was a million dollars in profit,
The tree farmers announced with pride.
There is a lesson her for our young,
Christmas used to be a beautiful time,
That happened once a year.
Now Christmas has become,
A time of greed and fear.
That the merchants won’t show enough profit,
With their import toys this year.
We no longer celebrate the Savior birth,
There are too many versions of religion.
So if you want to decorate a tree,
That is strictly your decision.
The only thing I hope you do,
Is decorate a plastic tree.
And open up your window,
And let your neighbors see.
That Christmas can be celebrated,
Without killing a living tree.

Saturday
Open letter to President Elect Barack Obama
Considering what you are facing in the years ahead I don’t know if I should say congratulations or not, Time will tell.
My first question;
Leaving the existing oil and gas wells in the hands of the companies which own and operate them.
Why couldn’t the U.S. government nationalize the future wells that will be drilled on government property and offshore and use the profit to pay the national debt and the mandated programs like Social Security and healthcare (Medicare and Medicaid)?
When I sent this question to a friend,
I received this reply;
“I could not agree with you more. Enough is enough. Let’s put this country back on the track it used to be. I still think taking the $65 Billion that the A.I.G. is to get should go to every American over 18, that would be $714,000.00 per person, then tax that to the tune of $130 grand each, so the government gets some money back. Then watch how fast we spread the wealth around paying bills and buying necessities!”
To those who would say Socialism, I say why not? Gov. Palin in Alaska is receiving a windfall profit tax from the oil companies in the amount of $3,500 per citizen. I say to hell with the name, let’s put the people first for a change.
Today the oil and gas prices have come down. I hope the American people realize the only way to keep them down is alternative fuels and power sources and change from oil to natural gas.
The news today tells the A.I.G’s higher echelons are to receive over $500 million in bonuses.
If the stock holders or our government officials allow this to happen, I believe you will see a reaction from the public that will put Al Qaeda to shame. Remember Marie Antoinette.
In this day and time the public will be kept informed when men who have allowed their company to go “belly up” and thousands of people to lose their life savings, receive a reward. This will light a fuse that will be hard to extinguish.
About the war, I can only say that as long as there are any men in the countries we are at war with who are willing to die to drive out our troops, we will never win. To win this war we would have to kill everyone over there and this we don’t want to do. Let’s negotiate.
They say when Columbus left on his voyage he didn’t know where he was going, when he got there he didn’t know where he was, and when he returned he didn’t know where he had been. And he did all this on borrowed money. Kind of like this administration huh? Better luck with your administration.

Ten Dollars a Day
Originally written March 28, 2008
There are people in this world asking about,
The billions of dollars disappearing into Iraq.
The only answers that we receive,
Is they sure ain’t coming back.
Lots talk about McCain and his war,
That he says is going well.
And ask him and Bush and Cheney,
If they are ready to tell.
The truth about eight thousand Sunni insurgents,
Infested with Al-Qaeda, our arch enemy.
Who if they are willing to say,
They won’t fight and kill our soldiers.
Will receive each and every man,
A salary of ten dollars a day.
What kind of war are we waging?
When we have to pay the Sunni insurgents,
Not to fight so we can say.
Our surge is working,
And the war is going our way.
Four thousand men have died so far in this war,
And the cost estimate is trillions.
And if the public begins to get disgusted,
They get slipped a few billion.
If they wait till next May for a tax rebate.
The Iraqi has a fifty billion dollar surplus,
On their oil’s ill-gotten gains.
While our country’s soldiers die,
The Taliban are making gains.
The Opium trade is gaining strength,
And our allies are pulling out.
But we are still doing great,
Our lying leaders shout.
All our respect from other countries has gone.
Call me a left wing liberal,
And try to prove me wrong.
There is one thing I have to say, to every one of you,
Let’s get Obama in and see what he can do.
**The word has finally come out that an army of insurgents equipped and paid by the U.S. Army in Iraq, calling themselves the ‘Sons of Iraq”. Has been taken over and to be paid by the Iraq government instead of the United States.

Politics as Usual

The Republicans and the Democrats,
Across the aisle from each other sat.
Neither saying much at all,
They were having a quorum call.
Then to show how they cherish our nation,
They gave themselves a raise,
Then went on vacation.
That ain’t all they’re gonna do,
They’re going to ‘pork’ a page or two.
Later some will give a speech,
How our troubles end is within reach.
The only thing we have to do,
Is vote them in for another term or two.
Victory is within our reach,
We just have to believe their speech.
Our environment has no worry at all,
As long as our vice president has no balls.
Now John McCain, he shows no fear,
At sending our children we hold dear.
Over to fight and die to prove he,
Deserves to be the one to run this country.
He may not read a teleprompter,
As fast and with gestures like Obama.
But he has a hockey mama to take up the slack,
Lookout Democrats, he’s coming back!

My Preacher
Originally written March 30, 2008
I heard my preacher’s sermon the other day,
That really made me frown.
He said David tied his ass to a tree,
Then danced two miles into town.
I got up from my pew,
And started toward the door.
I may some day run for president,
So I can’t use him no more.
I really liked that preacher,
He lived what he preached I know.
But with someone like Hannity asking why I stayed,
I knew I had better get up and go.
Someday near the close of my existence,
When I reach that long last ditch.
I expect I’ll have to explain,
Why I made the switch.
I said I liked that preacher,
His speech, his Christian views.
But if I had run for president,
He might have made me lose.

News Alert
The other day a news alert,
Flashed on the T.V. screen.
I waited with bated breath,
To see what it could mean.
The president made a speech about the $700 billion bailout,
Which was to be paid.
And if I could paraphrase, “We owe you a kiss,
Because you’ve just been laid.”
I’d listened to the tune of,
“Here he comes to save the day”.
That means that,
McCain is on the way.
As he flew to get things right,
And let the people know he’s ready for a fight.
Yes he’s a hero,
Hannity swears it’s true.
What I want to know,
Is just what did he do?
What I want to know,
Is how do we nationalize?
The new oil wells we are digging,
And let the government supervise.
The profit made from oil sales,
To wipe out our national debt.
Instead of making CEO’s,
Billionaires that haven’t made it yet.
They will say that’s not America’s way,
Capitalism must rule.
I say lets get rid of our countries debts,
So maybe I’m the fool.

Trophy Wives
They say some athletes, actors, and politicians,
Who reach their goals in life.
Feel the one thing that is needed,
Is a “Trophy Wife”.
You will see them in public,
Looking at their mate with adoring eyes.
Who will be the first to say the bad charges leveled against them,
Is just a pack of lies.
Now you take these trophy wives,
Who are always cute and slender.
You find it hard to visualize,
Them going off on a “bender”.
Now I’ll have to admit,
The rumors may not be true.
About one complaining about the feeling,
Of old age creeping up on you.
All I can suggest is be quiet as a mouse,
About your problems with your spouse.
As he spends all his time and energy,
Trying to get into the White House.
So to those trophy wives,
I say look to the past.
While your husband is out trying to rule the world,
You can find a gardener who will be proud to “mow your grass”.
Who reach their goals in life.

The Plagues
Originally written December 21, 2007
History has a way of repeating itself,
Ancient chronicles and documents prove this true.
When we read of the plagues visited upon,
The Christian, the Muslim, and the Jew.
These warnings were unleashed to illuminate,
The people were following a regime,
Their God could no longer tolerate.
Fire, water, and then drought began to disseminate the land,
To let the people comprehend that the path we're taking,
Can bring a curse down on this land.
To the non-believers who willingly follow a man,
Who will lead them into another Iraq or Afghanistan.
Just to stay in power the way Hitler did when WW II began,
Hitler had the blitz kreght to reduce a countries ability,
To rise and stand.
When the German troops came in and overrun their land.
Why is what our country doing different?
Tell me, for I don't comprehend.
We have been visited now with draught, fire and water.
And found we are ill equipped to protect ourselves,
While our military goes overseas to slaughter.
I must ask our citizens to tell me what you'd do.
If another government, bombed and destroyed your family?
Would you listen to them say, we're bring you Democracy?
Or would you fight the troops, which over-ran your country,
As people have time and time again.
Right now we have an administration,
Who lets this country mold and decay.
While they plan other wars, with Cuba and Iran.
Has a higher power who in history,
Sent plague to warn the people?
To mend their warrior ways,
And once more embrace peace.
For nature can produce a biological force,
That dwarfs the bombs of man,
This is fact proven time and time again.
This world has the means,
To colonize the Moon and Mars.
Or will we follow in the path,
Of the dinosaurs?

The Veto
Originally written December 21, 2007
A Republican spokesman on the news the other day,
Bragged with the information which he had to say.
One hundred-fifty Republicans signed a letter to the president,
And made a pact.
That each time the president vetoed a piece of legislation,
That veto would stay intact.
How the president and his crew of congressmen,
Must have laughed while the Democrats,
Debated and negotiated.
Trying to get a bill to pass,
Knowing no matter how much that bill was needed.
That they would never get,
The votes to have that bill completed.
Months passed and these Republicans,
Forgot the people they were supposed to represent.
Believing that the way to stay in power,
Was to follow the president.
But the president let the cat out of the bag,
When he began to spout.
The democrats are getting nothing done,
And should be voted out.
If the American people forgot the past eight years,
And fall for this unholy scheme.
We might as well give up on,
The American dream.
Let this administration stay in power,
And they will bankrupt this nation,
And bring it to its knees.
And the huge corporations,
Will have us in their fist.
Because our ordinary citizens,
Have lost the nerve to resist.

Turkey and Iraq
Originally written December 21, 2007
I listened to the news this morning,
On Turkey and Iraq.
Seems Turkey has been shot at,
And now are shooting back.
Seems the American government,
Is telling the Turkish government,
That’s not the thing to do.
Just because we went into Iraq,
Doesn’t mean that you can too.
The message we are trying to send Turkey,
Our Politicians shout.
It isn’t hard to get into Iraq,
The hell is getting out.
Now we’ve lost all this money,
And American lives as well.
By going into Iraq,
And blowing it to hell.
To the Turkish people,
We have to say to you.
You better do what Bush wants,
Or you’ll be terrorist too.
For our president tells China,
He’s a religious and tolerant man.
If you don’t believe this,
Take your head out of the sand.
And do like our secretary of state,
And secretary of war,
Instruct our working class.
Either do like we have to say and do like we have,
And insert your head back up your….uummhh….posterior.

The Trip
Originally written December 21, 2007
You say your spirits are low,
You had a lousy day.
Take a trip to the halls of Congress,
And listen to what they have to say.
Their tribulations for each other,
Rings out loud and strong.
For their distinguished, honorable colleagues,
Who have worked so hard and long.
Then the dignified, senior Senator,
Steps up to the podium to say.
Our troops would be home,
Our debts would be gone.
If the members on the other side of the aisle,
Had left his bills alone.
The amendments from across the aisle,
And the earmarks late at night.
Had brought his country down from super power,
To it’s weakened plight.
The thousands of armored cars we are building,
Which will satisfy our guilt.
If this war will only last long enough,
To get the damn things built.
Don’t ask our honored colleagues,
For your to dumb to understand.
How the countries we defeated in war,
Are now buying up our land.
One other question I’ll admit,
The answer I cannot guess.
Is when our educated congressmen,
Are asked a simple question,
And cannot answer with a no or yes.
The word has always been,
That Congress works for its citizens.
So will you tell me?
If American citizens feel the congressmen.
Have awarded themselves too much,
In salary and lavish perks each day?
How would you go about,
Giving them a cut in pay?
Here again is that complicated word,
Because I’m to dumb to say.
People say this administration has,
The best politician’s money can buy.
If you will check this six year record,
You will understand reason why.
I am sure most all agree,
The best thing we can do,
Is vote these people out of office,
And try to build anew.
You say your spirits are low,
You had a lousy day.

Giving them a cut in pay?
Here again is that complicated word,
Because I’m to dumb to say.
People say this administration has,
The best politician’s money can buy.
If you will check this six year record,
You will understand reason why.
I am sure most all agree,
The best thing we can do,
Is vote these people out of office,
And try to build anew.
Years End

This year is almost over,
Its final days are almost spent.
It seems I just blinked my eyes,
And now I am wondering where they went.
Congress is on vacation,
Doing what they do best.
Promising their constituents things,
Leaving our real world in a mess.
I’m waiting for what we expect to hear,
Some dark night we all will be amazed.
How they all worked together with partisanship,
And gave themselves a raise.
The way they all passed bills this year,
I’m sure we all should know.
Each would get an Emmy award,
If it were a soap opera show.
They didn’t want to fund the war,
And let the healthcare go.
But hell it was Christmas time at home,
They passed it so they could go.
Citizens are crying out look at our books,
How we are in debt and almost broke.
All our congressmen have to say,
Can’t you people take a joke?
Don’t you realize how intensely we work?
To get all this hard work done.
I know we argue a lot,
But you should love us every one.
Now take our dignified senior statesman,
The one with the silver hair.
Do you think your state would get their perks?
If he wasn’t over there.
We have to protect our billionaires,
Because they are so few.
Our poor and middle class should foot the bills,
Because you have to realize there is so damn many more of you.
Now if there ever comes a time,
When the poor and middle class.
Can pay for our vacation and slip us a little cash.
There won’t be such a division,
Between the rich and working class.

The Presidential Veto
Originally written on December 21, 2007
The other day I heard on the news,
Why don’t people love our President?
Don’t you realize like Jesus Christ,
He is heaven sent.
Just look how business has improved,
The chart’s all say it’s true.
Just don’t bring up the nine-trillion dollar debt,
That’s not the thing to do.
Let’s forget the letter,
One hundred-fifty Republicans signed and sent.
Joining him in a pact,
That if he signed a veto,
It would remain in tact.
Using the sixty vote rule,
And the President’s veto.
The farm bill and children’s healthcare,
Are the first to go.
Now today the Senate seemed to relent,
And overrode a veto by the President.
The one Republican rose to say,
This is an authorization bill, not lending.
And does not say where,
To get the money you’ll be spending.
To get the money will take a lending bill.
And trying to pass it you will find,
Our President waiting with his veto pen.
And then see if you can get the votes,
To override him again.

Tuesday
Let's Vote!
They say a nation or a civilization is like a pendulum,
Has only so high that they can soar.
Before greed and forgotten morals,
Bring them down once more.
You want to cry out and ask,
How our great civilized nation.
Is willing to spend more on war,
Than our peoples health and education.
For until our nation realizes,
That any life is a precious thing.
And faces the facts of suffering and grief,
That any war will bring.
We are all a part of this universe,
And it’s time the people knew.
You cannot take or help take a life,
Without destroying a part of you.
There are so many young people,
Because of war will never get to know.
The loving embrace of their life mates arms,
Or the way their children can bring an inner happy glow.
The facts are here and can’t be denied,
The whole world knows it’s so.
The war mongers must be voted out,
If this nation is to grow.
The truth is here for all to see,
And it’s time the people knew.
Just look back in the history of man,
At what greed and war can do.
So look at your politicians views,
Televised across the nation.
One wants to bring our soldiers home,
The other is for endless foreign occupation.
So let’s vote to end this war,
And be ready to pray.
For our countries pride and soul,
If the vote goes the other way.
Has only so high that they can soar.

Bring them down once more.

Translations
Written on December 21, 2007
When the Japanese poetmaster wrote his elegy,
Which in the Japanese language has the name Haiku.
Were his writings in rhyme in his country's pronunciation?
And then were lost in its English translation?
The Bible is a holy book, but the Koran is holy too,
Both worship a supreme being, as also does the Jew.
Again it’s in the translation,
That has created war and strife.
And sometimes a single sentence,
Has cost countries and men their life.
Emperors, presidents, and dictators,
Have used their holy books to say.
That both countries and men should be destroyed,
Because they worship in another way.
A football coach asked his team to join hands and pray,
They would achieve victory on the field that day.
One of the team spoke up and asked,
What was the Lord to do if the other team,
Prayed and asked for a victory too?
In the Bible a week could be a billion years,
So how can we say it's so?
That this earth and man were created in seven days,
A million years ago?
We must realize the leaders here and overseas,
Are using the Bible and Koran.
To justify the use of war,
To conquer other lands.
The world should realize there are warnings,
Of earthquakes, fire, water, and draught.
To disband our armies,
And turn ourselves about.
To turn our backs on leaders,
Who have never been on a battlefield.
But think it’s their right,
To send our young men to die and kill.
I listen to the men in congress,
Not honorable Republicans and Democrats.
Rise to the podium to say,
Let’s be sure the Amtrak railroads get their money.
While the children’s healthcare, can wait another day.
While another politician rises to declare,
Lets hurry because its time we have a vacation coming up.
And this country can go to hell, before we miss it too.
Oil and gas prices soar; our dollar has lost its power.
While our politicians and this administration blusters,
And our country weakens by the hour.
We have a president, who thinks he's a demy-god not a man,
And I pity him and his band.
When they approach their judgment day,
And retribution is at hand.

The Art of Illusion
The art of illusion a magician possesses,
All the scholars say.
Is the ability to distract the people’s attention,
While he performs his trickery, in an unseen way.
Today the greatest illusionist,
That now bring this practice into play.
Are the TV commentators,
We watch on the screens each day.
“Lipstick on a pig”, a catchy phrase,
Takes your thoughts away.
From the fact this country slides,
Further into debt each day.
Healthcare, energy, education, and jobs,
Are on a downward descent.
While the public listens to,
What the speaker really meant.
You say we need to drill,
To end the oil shortage please.
Tell me why in the hell,
Are we shipping our oil and gas overseas?
Ladies don’t forget you can buy underwear,
With Palin’s name to show real class.
Along with boxers, teddies, and thongs,
In with which to cover your ass

The Military Band
The Military Band
I used to run to curbside,
Whenever I heard the beat.
Of a military band, flag unfurled,
Marching up the street.
We’d stand at attention, the crowd and I,
Right hand held over my heart.
With the bands siren song,
Urging us to follow along.
Willing to do our part,
Come fight for your country,
The chicken hawks cried.
Enticing our young men,
We give you our pledge.
When this war is over,
We’ll never have to fight again.
World War II will be the war to end all wars,
The politicians said.
When this war is over,
Only peace lies ahead.
Police actions followed,
At a feverish pitch.
While our militarized, industrial nation,
Made its leaders rich.
The president says forget the sick,
And the hungry, young, and old.
While he borrows money from foreign countries,
To satisfy his goals.
I cannot disrespect our flag,
What more can I say.
But when I hear a band, flag unfurled, approaching,
I turn and walk away.
I used to run to curbside,
Whenever I heard the beat.
